Dolls, 2016-2017
March I will be posting a lot of Dolls, February is 'Mostly Square Artifacts'
Ever since I was a kid I was interested in dolls, wanted to correct their anatomy etc. Occasionally buying one if it had joints (action dolls). The best was a Spiderman toy where the hands were articulated down to the finger joints. Looking at swap meets and garage sales treasuring the alterations that people did to their toys. Feeling sad to see them in the dollar bin.
I came up with this series where dolls can be hung as art. Zip tied dolls to the work so that they could be taken down and played with again. Photo shoots of dolls in an environment, at the beach, in the park. Doll rescues at a couple of different swap meets. Mounting dolls on photos of where they were found. Later on, combined them with art cards and images that made internal sense. I was going to make an all in one post but there are too many photo shoots and finished pieces.
Fred Marinello is an inspiration in this and many other things. It got very arty... Around 12 photo shoots and 32 pieces. I will start posting them in earnest in March of 2023. Here is a quick peak.
